Combination heart-kidney transplants are rare only a little number of hospitals in the US and Europe do these procedures. David Gildea is the first person in Nebraska to have this dual transplant. Suffering from the rare blood illness Amyloidosis, Gildea had only months to live when his doctors determined they could transplant his failing heart and kidneys. Surviving the organ transplant was only his initial step. Gildea still wants a bone marrow transplant to beat the disease. He is planning to have that transplant at The Nebraska Medical Center as well. David, along with his girlfriend and his daughter joined members of his medical team at the medical center June 1st, 2010 to talk about this milestone transplant.
